CYCLONE ENERGY GROUP CELEBRATES THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY
CHICAGO, IL (April 19, 2022) – Cyclone Energy Group, an award-winning building performance consulting firm, announces the celebration of the 10th anniversary of its founding on April 19, 2012. The anniversary will be formally celebrated by team members and clients on September 20, as part of Cyclone’s 7th Annual Innovation Rodeo. As part of the anniversary year, Cyclone is opening an expansion to their WELL Health and Safety Rated Chicago South Loop office with a new High Performance Building Studio, an innovative, high-tech collaboration space for the team and clients to advance buildings to the next level of performance.
“Ten years ago I wanted Cyclone to be the best energy-performance company in Chicago,” said Benjamin Skelton, Founder and CEO of Cyclone Energy Group. “Over the past decade, the Cyclone team has grown from myself to over 20 of the most talented engineers and architects in the country. Their relentless passion to make buildings better and focus on client care has put our company at that pinnacle.”
Cyclone is a small company that does big things. From the early beginnings in 2012, the team was hired for design assistance, energy modeling and commissioning on high-profile projects including the International Award Winning Walgreens Net Zero Store in Evanston, Illinois. In 2013, Cyclone launched energyPLAN, a consulting-based energy management service geared towards office buildings and multi-family residential buildings. energyPLAN helps building management maintain and report on energy savings. The service has saved tens of millions of dollars in energy savings and millions of dollars in incentives.
In 2015 Cyclone launched their most popular annual event, the Innovation Rodeo. The Rodeo invites world renowned industry leaders to speak on a variety of building performance topics through individual presentations and panel discussions. Clients, partners and the broader building community are invited to join the conversation with a mission to collaborate and advance the built environment. After two years of being virtual, this year the Rodeo returns to an in-person event and will be hosted at one Cyclone’s recent projects, the Old Post Office redevelopment.
2016 marked a new focus on energy engineering-based team members and projects. The team quickly became one of the top performers in the ComEd Retro-Commissioning program with award winning projects including 340 on the Park, Central Park of Lisle, to name a few. Today Cyclone has expanded into monitoring-based commissioning and is working with the largest office buildings in Chicago and a national shopping center owner to use technology to make better buildings.
The company expanded again in 2017 and 2018 providing LEED and Green Globes Consulting for a handful of projects throughout the country. Part of this expansion included using real-time indoor air quality sensors in buildings. This led to the launch of Cyclone’s airPLAN service in early 2021 to support their clients’ need to maintain healthy buildings for their occupants.
The pandemic and shutdown didn’t slow the company’s growth. In fact, Cyclone added to the team in the height of the pandemic as their services had never been in higher demand. The team performed system commissioning on the cutting-edge McDonald’s Global Flagship at Disney World in Florida over the Summer of 2021. This service allowed the net-zero energy designed store to come online for drive-through service and eventually in-store dining. This past February Cyclone won the distinguished CIBSE Project of the Year award for this innovative project.
Over the past two years, the Cyclone team has added WELL and Fitwel services to further support the next chapter of building performance, occupant health and wellness. In 2021 Cyclone became one of the first consulting firms in the World to provide WELL Performance Testing and is engaged on projects internationally.
The latest addition to the team is cyFLY, a commercial drone that has flown Cyclone’s envelope commissioning services to new heights. Fitted with high-resolution cameras including infrared, the drone can quickly study building facades and identify deficiencies allowing the team to provide corrective actions to address air and water leakage.
Over the past decade Cyclone has supported numerous organizations that enrich the community. Whether it be pro bono projects, donating to nonprofit organizations through corporate giving or volunteering as a team on their annual Cyclone Day of Service, the company is always searching for ways they can make a difference and give back to the community. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, Cyclone will be donating a total of $10,000 to charities and organizations that positively impact our community.
“The most rewarding part of where Cyclone is today is the team,” says Skelton. “Our clients work directly with our extraordinarily talented group that has such diverse experience. Our team takes great pride in sharing the success of projects with our clients. It’s humbling to look back at the past ten years, but it’s even more exciting to think about the next ten.”
