Engineers Week 2021 Team Feature: Jed Starner
Engineers Week is a time to celebrate the work of our talented engineers and to inspire the next generation of innovators. This week we will feature a few of our Cyclone Energy Group team members. In keeping with this year’s theme, “Imagining Tomorrow”, we asked them to share their thoughts on how they are imagining the future.
Today’s team feature is Jed Starner. Jed joined the Cyclone Team in 2015 as a Commissioning Project Manager and in 2019 was promoted to Manager of Commissioning Services. In this role Jed is responsible for overseeing the commissioning team to ensure successful commissioning projects. Jed’s focus is to work with the team to provide clients consistent, high-quality, and impactful work. A native of Pennsylvania, Jed graduated from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with Electrical Engineering and Engineering Management degrees. When he’s not working, you can find Jed woodworking, building furniture, or renovating his home.

- Why did you want to be an engineer? I grew up liking to build, figuring out how things worked and ways to improve them. I saw a way to use my skills, create and problem solve.
- What is your coolest project experience? Richmond WasteWater Treatment Plant – BioNutrients Reduction Upgrades: UV disinfection and electrical distribution upgrade. Designed a new Medium Voltage Distribution system to feed a 108 Million Gallon Plant located in a floodplain. Finding a constructible, rigid, minimal service disruption, maximizing redundancy and cost effective solution was my task. The most memorable experience of the project was walking the finished project with the team, seeing my plan built and working as I envisioned.
- How are you imagining tomorrow? When I am “imagining tomorrow” I think about community oriented designs. Creating more connections with the people, more focused on human interaction and less on cars. More design focused on connecting the people to the space around them. More emphasis on the human experience.
