Frank Kohout
As Director of Engineering, Frank is responsible for leading the projects and initiatives requested by our clients that do not fit into the any of the other core areas of Cyclone’s expertise and that typically require innovative approaches and creative solutions. As an example, many of his projects involve modern building systems upgrades for existing Owner occupied buildings.
Prior to joining Cyclone, Frank was with McDonald’s Corporation for 16 years where his role was being their mechanical building systems leader. His positions included acting as Engineer of Record for over 800 new restaurants throughout the US, developing and leading the implementation of Building Systems standards and best practices for their markets throughout the world, leading global and regional RFP’s for building systems equipment, and supporting other departments – including legal and corporate sustainability – with technical expertise.
Prior to McDonald’s, Frank worked at WMA Consulting Engineers for 8 years where he was a HVAC project engineer.
A native of Chicago’s suburbs, Frank holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Frank currently holds a Professional Engineer license in Illinois and at one time held PE licenses in all 50 states. Additionally, he has served as a voting member on technical and standards committees for NFPA and ASHRAE, including 12 years chairing the sub committee for ASHRAE’s handbook chapter on kitchen ventilation.
In his free time Frank likes to travel the world or enjoy outdoor activities.
